Hunter Biden: 'Trump is the Number One Threat to the US'
WASHINGTON — Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, criticized President Donald Trump on Monday, calling him an “existential threat” to the United States and arguing that the president has played a central role in the country’s political and social divisions.
Biden made the comments during an interview with conservative media personality Tucker Carlson, where he also criticized the influence of wealthy technology executives and their relationships with Trump.
Biden pointed to Trump’s relationships with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and other prominent technology leaders, arguing that social media companies have financial incentives to amplify political division.
“They make more money by tearing people down. They make more money by dividing people,” Biden told Carlson. “They make more money, and so, they just let the algorithm roll, and it’s tearing us apart.”
Biden rejected the idea that Trump is simply a symptom of broader problems in American politics.
“I am not this believer that Trump is merely the symptom of a disease,” Biden said. “I believe that Trump is central to why this disease has gone from a local epidemic to a pandemic in the United States of America.”
Democrats have increasingly criticized the political influence of major technology companies and the involvement of corporate executives in the Trump administration. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., said in a June interview with Fox News that large technology companies were seeking “totally unchecked power” and argued that some should be broken up.
Biden has also become more publicly involved in Democratic politics ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Last week, he appeared on the BBC program “Newsnight,” where he discussed his father’s health and said Joe Biden’s cancer had spread. Hunter Biden also addressed the presidential pardon his father granted him in 2024, which shielded him from potential prosecution on three felony charges.
Hunter Biden told the BBC that he believed the pardon was ultimately “not good” for his father’s legacy.
Trump has repeatedly criticized the pardon and the Biden family. After Joe Biden issued the pardon, Trump described it in a Truth Social post as “an abuse and miscarriage of justice.”
During his interview with Carlson, Hunter Biden also praised Republicans who once aligned themselves with the MAGA movement but have since broken with Trump, including Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Thomas Massie of Kentucky.
Biden described those lawmakers as having “woken up” and credited them for challenging the president despite their previous support for him.
